Parenting Classes


Classes:  Winter 2012

All classes taught by Laura Murphy, Certified Parent Coach, and are open to anyone that would like to attend.  Each class teaches to the spectrum of parents of toddlers, teens or any age in between!

Raising Responsible Kids by Using Chores and Allowance

This class will provide guidance of how to design an allowance and chores program that is just right for your household no matter the ages of the kids or the amount of the family income. All the ideas will be practical ideas with sound backing of their importance and presented in a fun, easy to learn, and easy to implement program.

 Location:     St. Paul United Methodist Church

 7740 Lackman Road; Lenexa, KS

Date:           Sunday, March 4, 2012         

Time:           2-4pm

Cost:           FREE!

There is no need to register for the class. However, if you'd like childcare there is registration for childcare.  If you need childcare, please contact Courtney at rsvp@mayorgafamily.com.

SAMPLE OF CLASSES THAT CAN BE OFFERED:

"BECOMING A LOVE AND LOGIC PARENT"

A 5-week consecutive series. From the nationally know parenting philosophy of “Love and Logic” where parents learn how to set enforceable limits, give choices within those limits, and consequences with empathy. For parents of all ages and stages.  Each week participants will build on the knowledge and experience of the week before while finding their parenting confidences grow!

 Frantic Families

Based off the book "3 Big Questions for a Frantic Family" by Patrick Lencioni, come explore ways to lower the frantic pace of your family life and enjoy a more enriching family life.  The concepts are simple but can be life changing for the entire family as you explore the priorities that are unique to your household and a system of checks and balance to keep the priorities in line.

 Anybody have the time?

We live in a busy, fast-paced world, where every day is more jam-packed than yesterday! How do you manage your time? How can you put systems into place that work for you?  Join us as we take a practical and spiritual look at making time in your life for faith, family, and fun.  This class can help prepare you for the “Frantic Families” class but it is not necessary to have to attend both.  (can also be designed to help parents give ideas to their kids/teens for time management)

 Homework

A class offering a wealth of ideas of how to raise the odds that your children will take responsibility for their own work, earn good grades, and be responsible while the parents get away from nagging, bribing, arguing, and doing it for them. 

 Raising an Un-Entitled Child in an Entitled World

The focus on this class will be on how parents can implement  techniques into their parenting skills to ward off entitlement and raise responsible, grateful,  respectful children that think of others before themselves in today’s  society entrenched in entitlement. 

 Sibling Rivalry

Discover how to help children to solve their own problems, and set their own boundaries when the tides of sibling rivalry are running high.  Laced with practical ideas this class will also teach making sibling arguments an opportunity to nurture problem solving skills that can last a life time.
